Start with the question that brought you here

Can tart cherry juice help with sleep?

Some small human studies have reported improvements in sleep measurements with specific tart cherry preparations. Two areas researchers have examined are time spent asleep and sleep efficiency—the proportion of time in bed spent sleeping. [1] [2] [3]

Sleep duration

In a seven-day trial involving 20 healthy adults, a tart cherry concentrate increased total sleep time and sleep efficiency compared with placebo. [1]

A closer look at rest

Small studies in older adults also reported improvements in selected sleep measures. Other outcomes did not improve significantly, showing why the whole study matters. [2] [3]

What this means for you: the studies offer reasons to explore tart cherry, but they were small and tested particular preparations, not FruitFast’s current Montmorency–Morello blend. They cannot predict an individual result. Explore the fuller sleep and melatonin research →

A few questions before your first pour.

How much FruitFast tart cherry concentrate is one serving?

One serving is 1 fl oz, or 2 tablespoons—approximately 30 mL. A 32 fl oz bottle contains 32 servings. Mix a serving with about 7 fl oz water, then adjust the water for taste. This is our product serving guidance, not a clinically established sleep dose.

When should I drink it, and how soon might I notice a difference?

An evening drink can be an enjoyable way to fit tart cherry into your routine. Sleep studies used different preparations and schedules over periods such as seven days or two weeks; they do not establish a universal bedtime interval or a guaranteed time to notice a result. [1] [2] [3]

Does tart cherry concentrate contain added melatonin?

No. Our concentrate has one ingredient: tart cherry juice concentrate. Tart cherries have been studied as a food source of naturally occurring melatonin, but we do not state a tested melatonin amount for a current FruitFast serving. Read our melatonin guide.

Does no added sugar mean sugar-free?

No. The concentrate contains the fruit’s naturally occurring sugars. Check the Nutrition Facts and account for the amount of concentrate you use. Adding water changes the drink’s strength, not the total sugar in the concentrate you poured.

Can I add apple cider vinegar?

Some customers enjoy an optional splash in their diluted tart cherry drink for a tangier flavor. It is a serving preference; we do not claim that this combination improves sleep or makes the concentrate more effective.

How should I store my bottle?

We keep our concentrate refrigerated until shipment. It travels without cold packs during normal transit. Refrigerate or freeze after arrival, keep it refrigerated after opening, and shake before pouring. Read our storage guide.

The research behind the conversation.

These studies examined particular tart cherry preparations and groups of people. Here are the findings behind the summaries above.

2012: Tart cherry concentrate in 20 healthy adults

Howatson and colleagues used a randomized, placebo-controlled crossover design. After seven days with the study concentrate, total sleep time and sleep efficiency increased. The study was small and did not test FruitFast’s current blend. Read the study.

2010: A tart cherry beverage in 15 older adults

Pigeon and colleagues studied a proprietary beverage in older adults with insomnia. Compared with placebo, selected insomnia measures improved, while sleep latency, total sleep time, and sleep efficiency did not improve significantly. Read the study.

2018: A small pilot study with eight completers

Losso and colleagues reported increased sleep time measured in a sleep laboratory and improvement in one sleep-efficiency measure. Other questionnaire outcomes did not differ significantly. Only eight participants completed the study, so the result needs that context. Read the study.
