Curcuminoids: Turmeric Compounds & What Research Shows
Curcuminoids are yellow-orange polyphenolic compounds associated primarily with turmeric (Curcuma longa). The main curcuminoids are curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin.
FruitFast does not currently treat curcuminoids as a core fruit-compound topic, but this page remains in the library to explain where they fit within broader plant chemistry.
The Short Answer
Curcuminoid research often involves concentrated turmeric extracts or formulated supplements rather than normal culinary exposure.
Food & Botanical Sources
Turmeric is the primary dietary source. Other species within the Curcuma genus also contain related compounds.
Research Context
Curcumin has a large laboratory and clinical literature, but oral bioavailability is generally low and many studies use enhanced-absorption formulations. Results from those formulations should not be generalized automatically to turmeric in food.
