Pomegranate Juice & Cholesterol: What Research Shows
Pomegranate products have been studied in relation to blood lipids and cardiovascular biomarkers, but human findings are mixed.
The evidence does not support describing pomegranate juice as a cholesterol-lowering treatment, and a study using an extract or specific juice preparation should not automatically be applied to every pomegranate product.
The Short Answer
Use pomegranate as a food choice, not as a substitute for cholesterol evaluation or prescribed treatment.
What Researchers Measure
Trials may measure LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, oxidized LDL or other biomarkers. A change in one marker is not the same as demonstrating reduced cardiovascular disease risk.
